The YES Program inspires the next generation of innovators by providing high school seniors with immersive, hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Through mentorship, real-world projects, and access to cutting-edge research facilities, the program empowers students to explore their passions, develop critical skills, and make meaningful contributions to their fields of interest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to apply?
The YES Program is open to students entering their 11th or 12th grade in the upcoming academic year who have a strong interest in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
When does the program take place?
The intensive on-site program runs for 10 days during the summer, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily on the Southwest Research Institute campus.
Is there a cost to participate?
The YES Program is offered at no cost to selected participants. All materials and resources are provided.
What happens after the summer program?
While in the YES program, students will build a strong network of peers and professional mentors they can utilize to successfully complete school projects and effectively work towards their personal goals.
How are students selected?
Selection is based on a holistic review of the application including essays, academic background, and interviews. The top 20 students are selected to participate.
Can I apply if I've participated before?
The program is designed for first-time participants. Students who have previously completed the YES Program are not eligible to apply again.

Jayme K. Baucham is a dynamic leader and accomplished operations manager. He currently manages the Operations Management section within the Space Science Instrumentation department. A 20-year U.S. Air Force veteran, Mr. Baucham retired in 2023 following a distinguished career marked by exemplary leadership and strategic planning.
