About the Y.E.S. Program
The Young Engineers and Scientists (YES) Program is a transformative initiative that inspires and guides talented high school seniors to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) majors in high school, college, and beyond. Hosted by the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), the program offers a unique combination of intensive summer training and year-long mentorship. It exposes students to cutting-edge research, real-world applications, and personalized guidance from STEM professionals.
The primary goal of YES is to expand career awareness and encourage students to explore exciting opportunities in STEM fields. The program achieves this by:
Inspiring Careers in Hot Fields
Increasing the visibility of “hot” career areas through engaging talks and presentations.
Building Connections with Role Models
Amplifying Knowledge Through Sharing
Goals of the Y.E.S. Program
The primary goal of the YES Program is to inspire talented students to pursue science and engineering majors by expanding career awareness and fostering mentorship. This is achieved by:
- Highlighting high-demand STEM careers through engaging presentations by SwRI scientists and engineers.
- Providing continuous interaction with diverse role models during an intensive 2-week summer training and mentorship program.
Students work one-on-one with SwRI mentors on research projects while gaining hands-on experience. Through presentations and displays of their work, participants further spread STEM awareness to peers and educators, amplifying the program’s impact.
